First Reaction

I don't spend many nights laying awake worrying, but the other night a combination of a glitch in the precious metals market and the book I'm reading about the atrocious things people did to their neighbors during the Nazi regime during WWII saw me turning off the light with a pit of worry in my stomach.

I snuggled up to my honey and whispered, "I'm scared."

His reaction? (Giving him credit for answering at all since he was asleep.)

"Hungry people do desperate things."

Thanks, Babe. I feel better now.

Tools of the Trade

My husband believes in tools. He has 2 band saws, a planer, a table saw, a skill saw, and more hand tools than I can count. He's a builder, so he needs and used them all. If I need to use one of his tools, forget about finding the right one for the job. I finally bought myself a basic set of screw drivers, hammer, and tape measure so I don't have to go sorting through his things and messing them up.

As a builder, he knows how important it is for him to have his tools ready and in usable shape. And, lucky for me, he thinks I deserve the same.

So, last week, he surprised me with a new tool for my birthday-- a functioning, usable laptop. I'm already getting spoiled. It doesn't shut down unexpectedly, it stays connected to the Internet, and it keeps its charge.

My old computer is getting an overhaul to be made usable for the rest of the family. As for me, I'm super thankful for my new tool!

Thanks, hubby!

True Love

The old oven fizzled and sparked,
Electrical blue currents arched.
With a pop and sput,
microwave went kaput,
And they saw that it no longer warked.

He stayed up until midnight and past,
To put in the new one, right fast.
Cuz' he knew in the morn,
She'd be awfully torn
'Tween the ov'n and skillet, ir'n cast.

One good turn another deserves,
So she cranked out some meals and preserves.
25, if you please,
Some for now, some to freeze,
"Love you, too," she did say with hors d'oeuvres.

Horseshoes and Hand Grenades

As I watched my husband's chances to win the ATV shrink from 1 in 200, to 1 in 21, to 1 in 12, to 1 in 5, to 1 in 2, I caught myself thinking, "this isn't such a lame way to spend an anniversary after all."

A bowling contest was not at all what I had in mind for my 20th anniversary, but an ATV wouldn't be a bad memento.

Alas, when he missed the 3-10 split by an eighth of an inch, the ATV went to someone else.

Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. It definitely doesn't count in bowling. But we didn't walk away empty-handed. After all, we got a picture and a story to rival my parents' honeymoon at the crocodile farm.
