God makes light shine out of darkness. He hides his greatest treasure--his own glory shining in the face of Jesus--in the hearts of his people, fragile and simple as clay jars. It reminds us that the power is not from us, but from God. As I dip my quill (electronic though it may be) to write this blog, the title Clay Inkpot reminds me where the power and wisdom come from. If what you read has no merit, that's where bits of me have flaked off and muddied the ink.

the More Things Stay the Same
This is my favorite picture of my husband from the olden days, snapped at a picnic not long before I met him. I think it captures his smile and his ease.
Our youngest was looking at this photo the other day.
"I never saw this picture of Daddy before," she said.
I was surprised she recognized him.
"Does it look like him?" I asked.
"A little. And I recognize his shirt!"

When I opened the blog I thought the picture was a younger brother to Edwin. Yes it looks very much like him...he was a handsome boy, no?
That made me laugh! Maybe Edwin needs to replenish his T-shirt collection. Ha!
This is funny. Dave has a lot of the same shirts he had as a teenager...but we are a little younger than you guys. :)
That is AWESOME!! I laughed and laughed. My husband has some of those, too--old shirts that he simply keeps (though I threaten to toss them every time I wash them). He has one from the high school play he was in as a freshman. I just have to shake my head and marvel at how the time passes.
Patty, your blog is one that I check frequently. I love how authentically YOU the blog is.
Every time I think of you, I remember your laughter one night in Togo when we were all playing a game. The boys were ahead, and Edwin suggested that we quit and have ice cream instead... somehow this struck you (and only you) as hilarious, and you laughed and laughed. Finally, someone (Jenna?) got you to explain. So while you were wiping your eyes, you said, "I just think it's funny that he wants to quit while he's ahead, AND have his ice cream, too."
Thanks for all the encouragement you are to me!
Blessings to you!
